Future World Orchestra : Turning Point (1983)

★★★☆☆

I came across one of Ed Starink's Synthesizer Greatest albums in my music collection and started compiling playlists of the original synth pieces that he covered. A couple of his versions are good in their own right, but most make you want to get out the originals.

Noticing I had a few gaps I sought out the missing albums and came across this. Never heard of it, 1983 is a good vintage, the first track is a rip off of Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene IV. Excellent!

It turns out however that this is not an instrumental album - many of the tracks are songs, which would be fine if they were of the quality you could potentially expect from 1983, but these are not lost Eurodisco classics. They're fine but nothing special, and a couple are terrible. It's a shame because there is some great production across the album, particularly the opening to the song Just A Matter Of Time. Roulette is the opening track, the riff on Oxygene, and Mister Y is a later instrumental with a good balearic tempo. Seek these ones out for sure if you're looking for more Wizard Disco.
